voice + action || backdated to father's day
[At first, not much registers on the journal other than a long bout of nothing but the clatter of someone working on something, It's only after it stops does Kushina’s voice finally pipe up.]
--Here, what about this?
[She sounds a bit nervous and when nothing is said for too long (it’s really like ten seconds) she prompts with an impatient;]
Well? How is it?
Hmmm.... [Naruto’s voice can now be heard, humming to himself as he contemplates something.]
Yup! It’s good!
... Really?
Yeah, of course it is! There’s no way he’s not gonna like it, and even if he doesn’t for whatever reason it’d be his loss, ‘cause we’d get to keep it for ourselves y’know?
[Kushina’s laugh is softer than usual, warmer. There’s a ruffle as she pats down blond hair teasingly.]
Well then, I”ll make extra.
Yosh! [There’s a soft thump and suddenly his voice sounds louder- because now he’s leaning over the journal.] So what d’ya want me to do now?
Do you think you can preoccupy your dad and make sure he doesn’t come in here?
[There’s challenge and humor and something ELSE in her voice as she asks this, it’s always there when she’s talking to or about Naruto, in any case.]
Unless you want to stay and keep helping me... [The sentence trails off and it's obvious she's distracted with something now.]
It’ll spoil the surprise if he comes in now right? Maybe I can get him to go train with me or something.
[There’s a shuffling sound as Naruto chuckles to himself, shortly followed by the opening of a door as he calls back..]
See you later, Mom!
Wh- Hey! Just don’t forget about tonight, ya know?!
[It’s completely silent now with only one person in the house; no laughter or excited chattering over what they were doing to do today or predicting how surprised Minato was going to be later. So she turns to the journal to maybe find someone to talk to and notices it’s recording.
There’s more silence, awkward, until finally a she blurts in a fluster.]
Ah, er! Whatever you heard... you didn’t hear it, okay?
[OFF IT GOES.]

[1. Earlier, Kushina is seen rushing around a store, having too much in her arms and dropping a whole lot of it sometimes in her haste. She grumbles to herself and tries picking it back up, but ends up spilling more and making a whole lot of noise. This happens quite a few times throughout the store and as she's shopping--
Until she decides to use her new blue apron as a basket because who uses shopping carts?
2. Even earlier than that, she's a flash of bright red hair running through Luceti at top speed. And since she's had plenty of practice, the wings give her a higher velocity as they beat against her back.]

no subject
[Except when she's in a battlefield, of course. Seeing how Kushina's having trouble with her groceries, Ino initiates help by crouching down to pick up the can and place it in her own basket.]
My basket still has some room. I can carry some of those for you, if you want.
no subject
It was rude. Thoughts were meant to stay in the mind, they were private. Unless the person wanted to talk about it, most people didn't have that ability to read it. All except the Yamanakas. It probably didn't help that they're pretty nosy too.]
Oh, um-- [She blushes again, feeling another urge to rub the back of her head.]
I bet you have your own shopping to do though.
no subject
Okay, maybe they are. Especially this girl.]
Oh, it's fine. It's not like I'm in any hurry. That, and I'm about done.
[Which is the truth. She can cook later if she wants. She has all the time in the world. Though, she might take longer granted that she wants to cook for the entire 4th floor to celebrate father's day and all. Ino plans to invite the senseis too, especially Asuma, in an intimate dinner.
Before Kushina can even protest, Ino's already grabbing some of her cans and placing it in her own basket. When she's finished, she asks:]
I'm guessing this is for father's day? [Since she knows Naruto's Dad, the Yondaime, is here too.]
no subject
All she can do is watch as cans are taken from her armload of foods with a small frown and wishing she had her own basket and partly wishing she didn't run into anyone so she could figure it out on her own.
Kushina jolts, looking around warily for any sign of Minato and if he's decided to follow her in here. And if he did, he was going to get an earful about privacy. Though it was okay for Kushina to peer over his shoulder while he was responding to people on the journal.]
Yeah... [She only says it when she's sure they're safe. A smile quirks on her lips and her eyes brighten.]
I don't know what you're usually supposed to do for it but I figured a cake was as good as anything to celebrate, along with a few other things I picked up. He doesn't really have a favorite food or else I'd make that. So I decided to try a little of everything. There's some new things in these cookbooks they had at the library that would be pretty interesting to try out too.
Ever heard of kee-sha?
no subject
Or a hot man as his Dad.Nodding once in a while as she listens, Ino only blinks when she asks her question.]
... Kee-sha? [Another blink as she quickly tries to figure out what it is.] Huh, I don't think I've ever heard of it.
no subject
No napping on Minato tho ok okA bit flustered (she is obviously getting the name wrong) she glances off to the side, cheeks coloring.]
Um, maybe it was ke-chay...
It was spelled weird.
no subject
CAN'T BECAUSE PLAYERCEST ROFLUpon mention of how it's spelled weird, Ino's lips curve up into an encouraging smile.]
How's it spelled? Maybe I know what it is.
no subject
She pauses, thinking, and expression turns even more blank.]
I think there was a 'q' in there.
no subject
It takes a moment for Ino to recall if she knows food with the letter 'q' in it. When she does, she gives Kushina a sheepish smile.]
Oh, I think you meant 'quiche'.
no subject
That sounds about right.]
Oh.
[Blushing more and murmuring, more to herself now because she's already said it. She feels so stupid aaaah so she fidgets in her spot, wanting to finish up her shopping.]
It really was spelled weird.
no subject
With a reassuring grin, Ino waves a hand as if saying now now, it's okay.]
Hey, it's fine! The first time I encountered the word, I had some difficulty too. You wish it was just spelled the way it was pronounced. [REALLY, WORDS.]
no subject
She does relax a little but the blush doesn't go away.]
Did you have a nice, young girl help you out too?
no subject
To be described as a nice, young girl is flattering especially when it came from an adult. :3c]
If you can consider a dictionary a nice, young girl, then yes.
no subject
Nicer than some people.
[Meant to be teasing but there's just a bit of irritation. She's quick to get rid of it though.]
Are you shopping for anything special?
[She moves to continue along the aisle because there are cAKE TO BE MADE.]
no subject
Ino nods as she follows Kushina down the aisle. Her smile, this time, wanes a little, if not turning wistful.]
Yeah, it's Father's Day. Probably the same reason why you're shopping, right?
no subject
Kushina nods and because she's not looking at Ino and instead hunting down ingredients, doesn't see the falter in her smile.]
It's Minato's first.
[She finds what she needs and pulls back, finally making her apron into a little carrier.]
What do you usually do for a day like this?
[A cake was as good as anything but MAYBE SOME KIND OF CELEBRATION? who knows]
no subject
Ino understands it will be the Yondaime's first given how they died even before Naruto was born. Talking to Kushina right now feels surreal since she doesn't look like she aged to actually become Naruto's mother. All of her friends' moms look older, after all.
Her question, though, sent a silent dagger piercing her heart and it takes all her strength to just keep her smile.]
Well, we celebrate, of course. There'll be lots of flowers since we own a flower shop. [Her smile turns a little wider but her eyes should betray her cheer.] I remember I used to make a necklace of flowers for Dad when I was a little girl. He'll proudly wear it and tell me that each day I look more and more beautiful like the blossoms I give him. [She had always been Daddy's little girl. Always.]
no subject
Finally she faces Ino and feels something is wrong. She doesn't understand a father, daughter relationship like that. She had always been closer to her mother and with Naruto, she can't watch it.
She shoots Ino a small smile at her story. This is the second time now she's heard about a girl and her father. First Zatanna, and now Ino. So already she has a guess of what happened.]
Inoichi... right?
no subject
Mm. [A nod, and a bittersweet smile.] I miss him. [A lot. I want to say goodbye.]
no subject
Her smile almost matches Ino's but it's more understanding than bittersweet.]
So what are you making for him?
[She looks at her collection of stuffs, trying to guess.
No flowers there so no necklace.]
no subject
[She looks inside her basket and sorts out her ingredients.]
I'll also make some tea since Mom used to do that a lot back home.
[Her mom's one regal woman who appreciates calmness and propriety, after all.]
no subject
He knows how to make a lot of food, doesn't he? [Since she remembers the ramen he made when they had first arrived.
Her stomach rumbles a little at the reminder and she blushes(how can you not be hungry in a grocery store though) tries to play it off by saying a bit loudly;]
But it's Inoichi so there has to be flowers somewhere. [A moment of thought aaaaaaand]
What about flowers made out of frosting on your cake?
no subject
Her suggestion lights up Ino's face. While she's also thinking of floral cupcakes a while ago, wherein she'll ask Hinata for the recipe, this is a better idea.]
Great idea! I'd have to get more ingredients for frosting, though, but that was brilliant.
no subject
RUBBING THE BACK OF HER HEAD]
Minato is the brilliant one actually. I just put two and two together, ya know?
