[Like everyone else, Kushina is confused by the crap ton of new arrivals and their lack of wings. Only she's going to question the whole network about it instead of keeping it to herself. Maybe someone will know the answer.

She's hanging out by the bakery when she makes her post, so maybe you'll overhear her if you're around.]

I have a question. Why don't any of the new arrivals in Luceti have wings this month? I thought you needed them to be here.

[Silence... for a while, until there's a plucking/ripping sound and immediately afterward a loud;]

Do you know why all these people don't have wings?

I've no idea. Perhaps they ran out of wings, if that's possible. I've been here almost three years, and I cannot recall such a large number of New Feathers in a single month before.

Ran out of wings...?

They have to come from somewhere. The stores receive food through Shifting, but we've had shortages before. Surely our wings could also be affected?

I wish I arrived during a shortage of wings. [grumble]

So they really don't keep us alive? The wings? That's what everyone says.

They do. I've seen what happens when they are too damaged.

[It's not pretty.]

But that might only be because they were attached to us in the first place, for all we know. What could be so different about this world, for them to be automatically needed?

[She got a taste of it too, pulling out feathers.]

Dead people are alive. Weird things happen all the time. Memories can be changed without even knowing it. The entire world can change the way it looks. The technology here is confusing...

But the water is still water. The air feels the same, too, and if you hunt a rabbit in the forest and eat it the meat will be the same. And while this world might not have elemental crystals that I know of, from what I understand that's more the norm than an exception.

It's still not where we're supposed to be.

I mean, there's good things about it too, even I know that. [Being one who directly benefits from it.]

And I know there are some people who even have it better here than they do in their own world. But that's your world and you can't just abandon it.

Of course not. If I could return to my world and finish what I've started, I'd do so in a heartbeat, no questions asked. But it's not as if I have a choice, at least as far any of us know. Thus I must try to take comfort in the similarities.

What did you start?

Battling an ancient being that intended to drop its artificial moon on our planet. Or possibly use it to consume the planet; I was taken here before I could ask questions about its exact plan.

You don't need to know his exact plan, do you? The moon just needs to stay where it is.

The problem is that we've no idea if merely defeating that being will suffice to stop the moon's decent. I was hoping to ask how it was controlled, to stop it manually if necessary.

Maybe it's better that way, just asking instead of forcing people to do things. Even if what they're doing isn't right.

It's certainly much kinder. But I've never seen it work. Even allies that fight us against their wills usually need some sense knocked into them.

[Not that she's against knocking some sense into people. She's a regular of that school of thought]

Yeah, but a lot of people seem to think killing is the only way to stop someone.

...It has the advantage of permanently stopping all but the most determined threats. Still, if I'd killed everyone who ever attacked me I'd have fewer friends and family members.

[Off screen, she's shaking her head.]

That's doesn't make it right.

What if you've tried everything else? What if even the most powerful seals, cast by the greatest mages, cannot protect innocents from a being that will never consider sparing them?

If you can kill someone then you have the power to stop them in some other way. It's up to what we do with that power that matters.

...You are assuming that the threat is someone. Archfiends and corpses possessed by hatred are not quite so simple to deal with.

The being that could not be held back by even the greatest seals was technically dealt with before we reached him. That did not stop the incarnation of the world's hatred from using his body to try and destroy everything.
